# Activating Your UnitedHealthCare Health Plan Online

> Learn how to activate your UHC health plan online. Follow these steps to start your medical, dental, vision, or supplemental coverage quickly and easily.

Activating your UnitedHealthCare plan is the first step to accessing your health benefits. Whether you enrolled in a medical, dental, vision, or supplemental plan, this guide walks you through the activation process at activate.uhc.com so your coverage starts on time.

## Before You Begin

Make sure you have the following ready before activating your plan:

* Your **member ID** or **enrollment confirmation number** (found in your welcome letter or enrollment email)
* Your **date of birth** and **ZIP code**
* A valid **email address** for account creation
* Your **Social Security Number (SSN)** may be required for identity verification

  If you enrolled through an employer group plan, your HR department or benefits administrator may need to complete activation on your behalf. Contact them first.

## Activation Steps

    If you are a new member, select **Register** and follow the prompts to create your HealthSafe ID account. If you already have an account, sign in with your existing credentials.

    Provide your member ID or enrollment confirmation number, date of birth, and ZIP code to link your plan to your account.

    Once linked, review your plan details to confirm your coverage effective date, plan type, and enrolled dependents. Download or print your **member ID card** from the portal.

### Medical Plans

UHC offers several types of medical coverage, including ACA/Marketplace plans, short-term medical plans, and TriTerm Medical plans. ACA plans are fully compliant with Affordable Care Act requirements and include essential health benefits. Short-term and TriTerm plans offer flexible coverage for temporary gaps and are underwritten by **Golden Rule Insurance Company** (formerly UnitedHealthOne).

### Dental & Vision Plans

Dental and vision plans under activate.uhc.com are underwritten by **The Chesapeake Life Insurance Company** (formerly SureBridge) and managed at [uhcmemberhub.com](https://www.uhcmemberhub.com).

### Supplemental Plans

Health ProtectorGuard and other supplemental plans are activated through [uhcmemberhub.com](https://www.uhcmemberhub.com). These plans are underwritten by **Golden Rule Insurance Company** (formerly UnitedHealthOne) and provide extra financial protection alongside your primary coverage.

### Student Health Plans

If you are a student enrolled in a university-sponsored UHC plan, activate and manage your plan at [uhcsr.com](https://www.uhcsr.com). Student plans are tailored to the academic year and include coverage for on-campus and off-campus care.

## After Activation

Once your plan is activated:

* **Your member ID card** is available to download immediately in the portal
* **Claims** can be submitted and tracked online
* **In-network providers** can be searched using the Find a Provider tool
* **Benefit summaries** and **Explanation of Benefits (EOB)** documents are accessible in your account

  Activate your plan as soon as you receive your enrollment confirmation — do not wait until you need medical care. Coverage cannot be used until activation is complete.

## Personal Representative Access

If you are activating or managing a plan on behalf of another member (such as a dependent or elderly family member), you can register as a **personal representative** at the [personal representative portal](https://www.healthsafe-id.com/rt/login/uhcpr/en). You will need the member's consent and identifying information to complete the process.
